Collaboration between the Medical University of Vienna and The First State Medical University under the name of I. Sechenov (Moscow)

On June 5-7, 2017 the Delegation of Sechenov University headed by the Rector, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Prof. Petr Glybochko visited the Medical University of Vienna.
The delegation included First Vice-rector, Corresponding Member of RAS Prof. Andrey Svistunov, Medical vice-rector Victor Fomin, Director of the Institute of Personalized Medicine Filipp Kopylov, Head of the Department of Innovation Therapy Chavdar Pavlov and Head of the Department of International Affairs Olga Sadkovaya.

Medical University of Vienna is the one of the few specialized European Universities that successfully competes with the world leading classic universities and traditionally occupies the highest positions in the ranks of the world's best universities. («QS Medicine 2017» - position in the group 51-100, «QS Life Sciences 2017» - position 132, «ТНЕ World University Ranking 2016» - position in the group 201-250).

Medical University of Vienna is included in the top of European biomedical research centers and thus serves as a Reference University for Sechenov University in the Project "5-100".

Negotiations between the Heads of the Universities resulted in the Agreement for the Collaboration which will be started by joint PhD programs, organization of the "mirror" laboratories in the breakthrough research areas and cooperation in multicenter clinical studies.

During the visit the delegation visited scientific and clinical departments of the Medical University of Vienna and negotiated with leading scientists of the partner university.

During the visit of the Center for Pathophysiology, Infectology and Immunology Prof. Rudolf Valenta, a member of the International Expert Council of Sechenov's University demonstrated a new allergy diagnostics method based on specific ISAC (Immuno Solid-Phase Allergen Chip) chip. It allows identification of the response to more than 100 allergens from the single drop of blood, which can completely replace allergen skin testing. The visit resulted in preliminary agreement on the establishment of the inter-University center of immunology, as well as the training of the new method for Sechenov University doctors.

Then, work meetings in the Clinic of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Clinic of Cardiology, Institute of Specific Prophylaxis and Tropical Medicine were held, where particular areas for joint research have been discussed

The visit laid a solid foundation for the collaboration, of which first results and new areas will be discussed during the return visit of the Rector of the Medical University of Vienna to Sechenov's University in 2018.
