Abstract
IgE-mediated reactions first appeared in primates as the anti-helminth defense mechanism. This immune response against helminths helped warm-blooded animals to survive and Homo sapiens to appear. Further, this mechanism was transformed into IgE-mediated reactions to plant and animal proteins homologous to helminth ones. Thus, allergy from the evolutionist point of view is a perverted immune response to molecules from different sources, which are homologous to parasitic proteins. Molecules called panallergens have especially strong ability to cause both specific and non-specific reactions. Information about the induction of IgE reactivity to different groups of allergens allows the clinician to predict the severity of pathology and choose right strategy for therapy.
